The Bizung School of Music and Dance to open in February 2010!

We just got off the phone with our good friend Mohammed Alidu and are pleased to announce that the Bizung School of Music and Dance in Tamale, Ghana, is officially ready to open doors for enrollment less than 1 month from today!  The Bizung School will offer after-school music programs to upwards of 60 students in Tamale and the surrounding community.  Classes will be offered in traditional dance, drumming, and more.

When Alidu and our friend Greg Johnson traveled to Tamale back in August 2009 to begin construction on the school, over 30 volunteers joined them to make bricks out of local sand and lay the foundation for the building.  In just a few short months since then, construction is nearly finished, the teaching and administrative staff is in place, and everyone in Tamale is eager for classes to start.  We are so grateful to Alidu and the people of Tamale for all of the hard work and energy that has gone into planning and building the school.  We'll be traveling to Ghana in February for the Grand Opening and will have lots of stories and pictures to share from the trip!
