Documenting the Foundation’s Journey through Africa

It has been such an inspiring journey with the Playing For Change Foundation these past few weeks while traveling through Mali, Ghana, and South Africa. Using a digital camera and an HD video camcorder I was able to capture so much of the amazing work the PFC Foundation has been doing with their programs in Mali, Ghana, and South Africa. I am thrilled to have been given the opportunity to introduce to the PFC community to many of the new faces, celebrations, and truly genuine experiences we have encountered during our time spent in Africa.
Whitney Kroenke, Shauna Murray, and Thea Nash from the PFC Foundation have all done an exceptional job preparing and executing everything necessary to make this trip happen. It was matched by the hard work and dedication of the organizers and affiliates helping us on the ground at each location. Also, we were so fortunate to have the help of members of the Playing For Change Band including Mohammed Alidu in Ghana, and Jason Tamba, Mermans Kenkosenki, and Titi Tsira in South Africa. They made us feel at right at home and were excellent hosts and facilitators during our stay. It is truly a blessing to have such caring and loving friends around the world.
I was fascinated by the interactions I had with the local villagers, townspeople, musicians, students, teachers, and organizers. You can truly feel that everyone involved with these schools is putting all of their heart and talent into making these programs something that will grow with continued success and sustainability for years and years to come.
There are some very exciting plans for the media that has been gathered on this trip. Over 12 hours of video and 3,000 pictures were logged. We are planning on premiering several short films on www.playingforchange.org and www.playingforchange.com in the coming weeks. Each film will offer a candid view into what the PFC Foundation programs will aim to accomplish both presently and in the future.
I truly hope the moments I have captured will offer the PFC community a first hand look into what Playing For Change passionately pursues as we travel the globe. Learning the roots of various cultures, philosophies, and musical traditions brings us closer as a human race. And we believe the transcendent nature of the music we discover along the way can help us all create a more peaceful planet. The Playing For Change Foundation will strive to use these principles to empower the next generation of creative thinkers and artists by building a better future for our youth, one school at a time.
One Love,
